Recycling Performance In Scotland Reviewed

Landfill dependency for household waste in Scotland was 93% during the year to April 2000, with recycling at 5% and energy recovery at 2%. The average annual gross costs of refuse collection was £46/home, a figure which varied significantly between councils (£34-£72). Across Scotland, councils made over 125m refuse collections from domestic premises during 1999/2000. The number of collections missed was slightly under 60,000 or one missed collection per 2,000 premises. There were more than 924,000 special collections of bulky domestic refuse, of which 82% were collected within the target time of five working days - a reduction of almost 8% collected within target compared with 1998/9.
