Glenrothes has released a limited-edition marque exclusively into the US, The Glenrothes Single Cask 1979 No: 13458, packaged in a distinctive "stubby" looking glass bottle, This latest expression from the Speyside distillery will be confined to an offering of just 519 bottles, priced at US$ 1000 each. The whisky was filled into a Spanish oak cask, previously used for cream sherry, and was left to mature until October 2005, when it was bottled at 57% abv. There have only been five single casks previously released from this distillery: two from 1966, two from 1967 and one from 1980. This single cask is one of only an additional 3 such rarities, all from 1979, deemed to be so special by malt master John Ramsay that they can warrant this distinction.
