Quinn Glass is adding capacity to its Derrylin (N Ireland) container plant, but its plans for a new operation in north west England has hit a delay. Quinn has secured full planning permission on the site near Chester, and has also grants from the DTI and NDA. The company had expected to be on the site by spring this year, but before it can move the issues of asbestos contamination needs to be resolved with landowner PowerGen, according to Peter Fitzgerald, sales/marketing manager of Quinn Glass. Derrylin meanwhile is currently producing and selling to capacity and plans to increase capacity from 620 to 670m units. Markets in the UK represent 65% of sales and 6-7% of production is exported to North America, Caribbean and N Europe. During the past year the site has increased the proportion of pre-labelled glassware, self-adhesive and sleeved, applied in-line.
