Profits Rise For Gerresheimer Divisions

Gerresheimer reported a second-quarter profit helped by a strong demand for plastic packaging products and moulded glassware. German-based pharma packaging firm Gerresheimer posted revenue of 284.5m/Euros for the 3 months ended 31 May 2011, up 5.9% on the year earlier quarter, & net income of 13.3m/Euros, up nearly 19%. In a statement, Gerreshemeimer said that the gains were driven by strong demand for both moulded glassware & plastic packaging products. Growth drivers in its plastic system division also included inhalers, insulin pens & diagnostic systems. In March, Gerreshemeimer acquired a pharmaceutical plastic packaging company in Brazil called Vedat. The firm said that this acquisition had "contributed to the positive development." Overall, for the quarter, moulded glass contributed 85.2m/Euros, up 4.7%, & plastic systems brought in 98m/Euros up 20%. This contrasts with Gerresheimer's tubular glass unit, which saw sales fall 5% to 81.8m/Euros. We have achieved strong growth in revenues & net income," said Gerresheimer CE, Uwe Röhrhoff, adding: "As a full-service partner for glass & plastics products & systems for the global pharma & healthcare industry we have a unique positioning. There is worldwide growth in demand for intelligent drug delivery & primary packaging solutions. Our competence enables us to make a decisive contribution to health & well-being."
