Processes And Applications Of Low Pressure

Plasma processing of materials is an innovative technology whose industrial application is growing at a fast pace. Its unique feature is the capacity to produce a chemically reactive environment in gas-phase at room temperature, which is in a dry environment, with only small amounts of chemicals. This article presents results on the plasma processing of textiles obtained in the Centre of Excellence Plasma Prometeo at the Milano-Bicocca University. First, the article reviews plasma grafting on artificial and natural fibres aimed to obtain hydro-repellency on textiles, without preventing transpiration and water vapour diffusion. Then results concerning the incorporation of suitable nanoparticles in textiles by means of a so-called dusty plasma are presented.
