Precision Machining Of Calcium Fluoride

Due to its outstanding optical properties, increasingly calcium fluoride is replacing the quartz glass that has conventionally been used. However, some of this materials characteristics present considerable challenges when machining to great accuracy is required. This can be resolved with suitable processes and appropriate tool selection, as discussed in this paper.
