PPG Industries recently outlined a number of expansions to its glass fibre production in response to growing demand in Asia & the USA. The plans were issued at a recent press conference where PPG highlighted the advantages of having 8 plants scattered around the world, allowing for glass products to be produced at locations near the end user market. Whilst introducing the new ChopVantage HP 3610 fibreglass chopped strand, which is a reinforcement for use in polyamide compounding operations, V Holt, PPG's Vice President (Fibreglass) outlined plans to "Expand product reach beyond the EU market". Originally made by PPG at its Netherlands facility, ChopVantage HP fibre is now produced at the Shelby, US plant & also at PPG's joint venture facility in Taiwan. PPG said that most of the product research for thermoplastics is located in Europe, where the market is tested.
