Spanish glassmaker Vidrera del Atalantico recorded sales up nearly 40% in 2004 at 10.98M Euros, with pre-tax profits of 3.6M Euros. The company, in which the Portuguese group Sotranco became an investor in 2004, also saw improvements in production with output up 23% and efficiency improved by 10%. This was made possible by a fall in the number of container rejected and also cuts in downtime between production runs; the number of production runs increased to 261 in 2004, compared with 183 in 2003. Vidrera expects to progress in its turnover further to 13M Euros in 2005 thanks to concentrating production on short and medium runs of specialist containers rather than on standard bottles.
