Plm To Produce Plastic Bottles For Carlsberg And Tuborg

Denmark's Carlsberg and Tuborg breweries are to begin selling beer in plastic bottles. The introduction of the new bottles, developed over a period of three years in partnership with the Swedish packaging products maker PLM, will mark a major break from Danish beer drinking tradition which, according to a press report, has always held the glass bottle dear. The new PEN bottle will hold 38 centilitres as opposed to the glass bottle's 33 centilitres. It will be only a third of the weight of its glass counterpart. The new bottle is said to preserve the taste of the beer better than other plastic bottles and to provide a shelf life of three months. PLM, part of the Rexam Plc group, will produce the bottles at its plant in Lidkoping, Sweden. (whole item)
