Food manufacturers need to prepare for price rises for plastic food packaging in the coming year as firms in the sector look to offset rising raw material costs, Linpac Packaging has warned. Linpac said it expects further crude oil and polymer price increases over the next 12 months and advised food producers to plan now for future price rises to avoid margins being squeezed. The company said: "There is only so much we can do" to offset the escalation of material costs. "Linpac has had to absorb the recent cost increases but we can no longer sustain this and maintain the level of quality and service we currently offer," said Adam Barnett, Linpac Packaging VP of Marketing & Innovations. Andrew Copson, Deputy MD at Sharp Interpack said: "We are going to have to discuss the sharing of the cost increases with our customers."
