Plastic Bottles Use Coating For Longer Life

A new barrier coating for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) offers longer shelf life for plastic containers because it helps prevent oxygen and other gases from permeating the container and leaching into its contents. The coating, called Oxyplete, has been developed by researchers at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa. The researchers claim their new coating can also cope better with hot or cold filled beer. It is a multi-layer product that can be applied on a separate line from the packaging manufacture.
