Phoenix Award 2004 Winner Announced

Alonso Gonzales Jr, president of Grupo Pavisa (MX), has been named 34th recipient of the Phoenix Award, receiving a Steuben Glass sculpture of the mythological Phoenix bird at a ceremony and banquet held at the University Club of Mexico on Sept 17. The Phoenix Award was established in 1971 to recognise special individuals who have made significant lifetime contributions to the glass industry in the field of science, production, or education, relating to: containers, fibre, scientific, flat, tableware & electronic glass. The award committee is made up of 24 voting members, representing a diverse group of suppliers to the glass industry. Mr Gonzales was selected unanimously for the award in recognition of his many contributions to glass packaging, his vision for the automation of the glassmaking process & his achievements in promoting the material.
