[Pet] Recycling Code For Soft Drinks

Soft drinks companies are backing a recyclability code of practice for PET packaging and have agreed to send no manufacturing waste to landfill from 2015. The proposals were revealed in June by the British Soft Drinks Association (BDSA) in its sustainability strategy. the BDSA said the removal of preservatives from soft drinks had led to an increase in barrier layers in PET bottles, which could affect their recyclability. The code will be finalised in the next few weeks and implemented as new packages are introduced. The BDSA is also concerned that the use of more barrier layers could reduce the opportunities for lightweighting of PET bottles.
