Marks & Spencer has become the first retailer to convert its entire range of 25cl glass wine bottles to PET. The move is estimated to save 525 tons of packaging a year across 19 wines in mini-bottles, according to the company. The retailer has been working with French producer Paul Sapin & British-based Roger Harris Wines to develop PET packaging with a longer shelf life than previously used for wines in high-turnĀover venues, such as in-flight catering. M&S winemaker Belinda Kleinig said: "Research shows that our customers like the convenience of lighterweight bottles." MD Roger Harris said: "Customers at Marks & Spencer will be able to buy wine in small bottles that are 88% lighter than glass, shatterproof & won't clank in their shopping bags."
