The Elzone analyser is useful in a variety of applications within the glass industry. It has been used to test incoming raw materials to ensure their quality before milling as well as for the final milled product. Unlike laser particle size analysers, the Elzone analyser uses an electrozone sensing technique in which particles suspended in a conductive fluid flow one at a time through an orifice under a pressure differential. Electrodes are immersed on each side of the orifice and as each particle passes through, it displaces its own volume of electrolyte. This produces a detectable pulse in the electrical conductance across the orifice. The amplitude of the pulse is proportional to the volume of the electrolyte displaced by the particle and this is the actual volume of the particle.
