Pakistan Raises Doubts Over Plastic Bottle Usage

Bottled mineral water is popular in Lahore because it is considered clean & safe, compared to highly contaminated tap water, but recent scientific study reveals that extensive use of mineral water could cause cancer. Prof Shotyk of Heidelberg, Germany, said his research showed that a potentially deadly toxin called antimony, used in making plastic bottles, leaked into water the way water absorbs flavour from teabags."The longer the water is stored, the higher the level of poison," says the research, putting a big question mark over the use of PET bottles for mineral water & beverages globally."I don't want to shock people but here's what I know: Antimony is being continuously released into bottled drinking water. The water in PET bottles is contaminated. Small doses of antimony can make you feel ill & depressed. Larger doses can cause violent vomiting & even death."
