[Packaging Waste] Now The Strategy Has Sunk In; Fears For Funding

A growing number of waste management, plastics and packaging companies, councils, consultants and industry experts are warning the Government that plans to get the UK's recycling rates back on track may not be enough. Consultations on Defra's resources and waste strategy have been running since 18 February and end on 13 May, covering extended producer responsibility, a deposit return scheme (DRS), plastics tax and harmonised council collections. However, now that interested parties have analysed the strategy, it is becoming clear that some believe the proposals will need to be backed with hard cash to be effective.
