Owens Illinois Glass Pioneers Narrow Neck Press And Blow Process For Lightweighting

Glass bottles can be recycled time and time again to make brand new containers with no loss in quality. O-I's new standard range of lightweight glass bottles was designed to add a further eco friendly aspect for health conscious consumers looking for fresh minerial waters. However, the range has proved popular far beyond its original target market, as producers of coridals, vinegars, oils, mixers & even alcoholic cocktails are now choosing them. Designed by O-I to a specification provided by bottle merchant AE Chapman, the new lightweight bottles are produced in 2 different variants, from 20cl-75cl. Using O-I's pioneering NNPB process, weight savings from earlier bottles reach as high as 70g with 75cl container. The 25cl container weighs just 190g compared to the norm of 210g. The 33cl & 50cl weight 220g and 300g respectively with savings of 30g and 60g on traditional bottle weights. Director, Andre Chapman, said, "Health conscious consumers can now enjoy their mineral water knowing they are not only protecting themselves, but the environment, too. real savings of raw materials and carbon emissions, while the negligable change in shape significantly reduces the need for changes to customers filling lines.
