VMA has introduced the ODM 60.900, a device based on two CCD-row cameras for the measurement of the outside diameter of tubes or similar articles, such as technical glass, domestic glass & laboratory glass. The German company says that each of the two cameras takes an image of an outside edge of the tube. The cameras are installed on a transfer unit, whose position is adapted in accordance with the diameter to be measured. The positions of the cameras & the position of the tube edges on the cameras are evaluated in a micro controller. This way the diameter of the tube is determined in a precise way. The system comprises a camera unit, an illumination unit & an electronic unit. VMA says the camera unit, as well as the illumination unit, can be protected by means of water cooling, air cooling or radiation protection.
