This article details a new global safety strategy from NSG, which aims to halve significant injury rates by 2013 and achieve a minimum of 3 years without a fatality. The NSG Group safety programme is being revised to become more focused, more prescriptive and more proactive. Implementation of the programme will be recognised as a key aspect of managers' safety leadership. In support of this, monthly safety reports will shift focus to proactive actions, rather than being simply a tally of accident rates and other statistics, and an NSG programme of safety audit and verification is to be introduced. A series of initiatives is already running worldwide, such as: Glass Handling; Accident Investigation; Safety Leadership; and Safety Support Sites in Automotive. Also, a specification guide for safety equipment to be carried by vehicles on NSG sites has been launched in South America, based on a global site survey carried out by Group Technical Safety Director, John Lygo.
