This article describes work on research and development of nitride-bonded ceramics that has been carried out as a University-Industry-Research Council project. It shows how sound materials science and product development are brought together in a project with real economic benefit to industry. The way in which future developments with fibre reinforcement may take forwar this esciting example of ceramic engineering is also given.
