Nippon Sheet Glass and the US glass processor Cardinal have agreed to cooperate in the field of low-radiation glass. Nippon will exclusively sell Cardinal's low-radiation glass in Japan, and the two companies are planning a joint venture manufacture in south-east Asia. For Cardinal, the union represents an advance into Asia including Japan, while Nippon hopes to avert trade friction in the area of sheet glass. Low-radiation glass is being more and more appreciated in homes and buildings for its heat insulation properties. Manufacturing technology includes applying a special layer of metal film to the glass surface to cut thermal radiation. Nippon also manufactures the product, for which demand is growing, but will take shipments from Cardinal rather than increase its own output. (whole item)
