Nippon Electric Develop Lead-Free Radition Shielding Glass

Nippon Electric Glass Co has developed a lead-free radiation shield glass for use in medical imaging. The thin high-strength glass is said to be most suitable for mammography and requires relatively low power consumption. The newly developed glass will replace the lead acrylic shielding material currently used in mammography. Manufacture of the new glass began in April 2004 in Europe. The firm employs 3,209 people and consolidate sales for the fiscal 2002/3 year was reported at JPY 328.8BN.
