Protec GM is a new nickel alloy coating from Johnson Radley Ltd which is intended to dramatically increase the durability of glass container moulds. The coating's performance was demonstrated during extensive trials with a leading UK container manufacturer, revealing a 300% increase in service life. As a result, the company is now a regular user of Protec GM. Other UK manufacturers are carrying out their own assessments & Johnson Radley is now making moulds coated with the material on a worldwide basis. "The glass container industry has known the advantages of nickel-coating moulds for many years, but until now no-one could find a method of bonding nickel to cast iron that could withstand the rigours of the forming process - by combining the specialist expertise of a coatings manufacturer a coating has been developed that works," said sales director C McDermott.
