Schott North America have announced the availability of new lead and arsenic-free glass types of use in optical systems for digital cameras, camcorders and projection units. Glasses free of both lead and arsenic, designated as "N" glass, are more friendly to the environment and more chemically stable than other forms of glass. N-SF14 is characterised by a higher transmission in the blue/violet spectral area compared with other glass types. N-LASF46A is a highly refractive lanthanum glass with an improved optical position and transmission. The company also reports high transmission (HT) advancements to well-established high-index N-SF6 and N-SF7 glass types. The HT forms are specifically developed for use in digital projection and in industrial and consumer optics for imaging applications. See: www.us.schott.com
