According to marketing executives, a majority of consumers make most of their shopping decisions at the last minute while standing in front of store shelves and are drawn to those products' packages that have a visual "pop". Thus, the average life of a package before its next makeover is down to 2 years today, from 7 or more in the mid 1990s. Consumer goods companies once viewed containers as mainly a means to shop products. Today however, as new technology as emerged, industries are trying to reduced their environmental impact and traditional means of advertising may not reach consumers as effectively - companies are now using their containers as a prominent means of tangible advertising to grasp shoppers attention.
