A new glass forming machine to produce lamps from very thin glass less than 1mm thick has been developed by the Korean company, Mirae Corporation. The machine is designed for use in the manufacture of light sources for the backlight units of LCDs, and provides temperature uniformity to help eliminate cracks that can occur during high temperature forming. Mirae says its machine will also allow consistent manufacturing processes with the stable transfer of hot glass. It can produce 100,000 units per month. Machines are already available to produce up to 26 inch lamps and a new system is being developed to allow production of lamps of more than 32 inch. (whole item)
