N. Ireland's glass recycling capacity has received a dramatic boost since the opening of a new facility worth £1.2M. Kosmos Glass Recycling opened the new recycling plant in Belfast at the start of the month. It boasts a state-of-the-art krysteline machine - the first of its kind in N. Ireland. The facility will recycle waste glass from clubs and pubs in the city and recycle it into ground glass. The new technology, which was developed by WRAP, will allow waste glass to be collected in bulk, without the need to segregate it by colour. The ground cullet can then be sold for use in water filtration, road paving, flooring paint and fibreglass. The MD of Kosmos said: "Considering the potential financial implications for businesses failing to comply with EU regulations, Kosmos will provide local firms with a fast and economical method of dealing with waste glass."
