New Coating Prolongs Mould Life And Reduces Swabbing

Protec GM, the coating developed by Johnson Radley to prolong the life of glass container moulds, is also helping manufacturers to reduce swabbing frequency and increase pack percentage. Trials carried out before the nickel alloy coating was launched at the beginning of 2000 showed that it could increase mould life by up to 300%. This remarkable performance is now being confirmed by many glassmakers around the world who have installed Protec GM mould sets on their own forming lines. A full set of 25cl beer blanks at a UK factory has made over three times the number of containers previously experienced with an uncoated mould set.
