Quinn Glass is going ahead with its planned £120M investment in a new glass bottle factory with accompanying filling, labelling and distribution facilities at Ince, near Chester. The development is being supported by £4.9M from the UK Northwest Development Agency and by regional selective assistance from the UK Government DTI. It will be one of only a few plants around the world to manufacture and fill glass bottles on the same site, and will include one of Europe's biggest automated warehouses that will be able to store up to 133,000 glass containers at once. Building work at the site began in September. Quinn Glass is Ireland's only producer of glass bottles following last year's closure of Ardagh's factory at Ringsend in Dublin. It has recently agreed to recycle glass from the Republic of Ireland at its factory, involving around 200,000/tpa waste glass.
