Multilayer Nano-Composite Pvd Ceramic Coatings For Aluminium Alloy Die Casting And Die Performance Enhancement

A novel series of ceramics nano-composite chromium-based coatings have been developed to prevent die casting damage by means of improvement of erosion resistance and reduction of aluminium adhesion to die surfaces. The coatings were characterised and functional tests were accomplished through simulations of the operating conditions. Results showed how multilayered nc-CrAlSiN systems proved to be a performing solution for aluminium alloy die casting.
