Msp Calls For Bpa Ban North Of The Border

Liberal Democrat MSP Jamie Stone has called for the Holyrood parliament to ban bisphenol A (BPA), claiming that recent studies have raised "consistent and compelling concerns about the potential health risks" of the additive. "The Scottish Government should undertake its own investigation into BPA. In the meantime taking the precautionary approach would be wise," said Stone. Several other countries, such as Denmark, have placed restrictions on BPA. We should similarly take similarly proactive measures to protect the health of citizens rather than waiting on scientific consensus or for the damage to be done." Stone has lobbied Scottish Public Health minister Shona Robsion to act unilaterally of Westminster and introduce regulations to end the use of BPA, particularly in feeding bottles for babies.
