MPs have been warned that investment & jobs in the glass recycling & manufacturing industry will be driven abroad because the UK has taken a stricter stance on climate change than other countries. British Glass addressed the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Industry Group on the same day that PM Tony Blair said he would use Britain's presidency of the G8 nations to push climate change up the global agenda. British Glass welcomed the UK government's decision to "lead the world" on emissions by pushing for a 20% reduction in emissions by 2010, surpassing the 12.5% reduction needed by the EU to meet Kyoto demands, but British Glass DG David Workman said the UK's decision to do more & the expected decision that the UK's allocation of emissions limits for the glass industry will be tougher than in other EU countries, will have a major negative impact.
