Mitsubishi Plastics Develops New Type Of Laminated Glass

Mitsubishi Plastics has developed a new type of laminated glass, Multiblock Premium, and brought it to the market mid-February. The glass combines the company's proprietary fluoropolymer intermediate film with German company Schott's ultra-impact-resistant glass. Not only does the laminated glass feature superb fire and heat resistance and high security and safety, but it is lightweight (10% lighter than conventional plate glass). It also has a light transmittance of 92% (compared to plate glass with 88%), and is suitable for cutting. Mitsubishi is aiming for sales of Yen 120M ($1.2M) in the first year, targetting schools, hospitals and other public buildings that are turned into shelters in case of disaster. (whole item)
