Renite is developing a new generation of swabbing compounds in response to the need to extend the time between swabbings. A good, general purpose blank mould swabbing compound is the most important of these, and Renite F-71 was the first of the new generation. When swabbed on a hot metal blank mould surface, it leaves a firmly bonded, graphitic solid film lubricant, and quickly developes a good "polish". In the initial test, it was possible to extend the swabbing interval from 30 min to 45 min, compared to a popular competitive compound. Over several months, operators reported that the interval could generally be extended by 25-50%, depending on the job. There was a corresponding drop in lubricant consumption, a drum going about a third further. Operators also commented that there was less smoke than before.
