The EU's Standing Committee on the Food Chain & Animal Health has adopted a new EC Regulation, 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice for materials & articles intended to come into contact with food. The Regulation has been published in the OJ on 29 December, 2006 ref: OJ L384 20.12.2006 p.75-78. It came into force 18 January 2007, but does not apply until 1 August 2008, providing plenty of time for those affected by the Regulation to put adequate measures in force to comply with the requirements. The Regulation lays down detailed principles to be incorporated into GMP protocols to ensure uniformity/conformity amongst Member States. It will apply to all sectors and all stages of manufacture, processing and distribution of materials and articles, but excludes the production of starting substances. Currently, only requirements specific to printing inks are given.
