Magnesia Refractories

The increase in demand of higher pulling rate, coupled with high temperature of the tank furnace puts additional load on the regenerators. Higher life expectancy under these changed conditions needs refractories with enhanced quality. This article discusses how large crystal creep resistance magnesia bricks have now been developed for the top course of the regenerator. The developed bricks show superior performance in a 300/tpd container glass plant. As it is an end fired furnace, the temperature in the partition wall goes very high although the operating temperature of the furnace is around 1560 deg C. The carry over attack further adds to premature deterioration of life. The crystal size of Type C is very large which slows down the carry over attack supported by superior creep resistance at 1600 deg C.
