Luxembourg'S Packaging Law Calls For Higher Recovery Rate

Luxembourg must reach a 65% recovery rate by 31 December 2008, 5% more than set in the revised packaging and packaging waste directive 2004/12/EC. That was the main message of Luxembourg's new law, published recently. Luxembourg must also read a general 60% recycling rate as opposed to 55080% in the revised Directive. The material specific recycling rates, however, are exactly the same as those set in Directive 2004/12/EC. Following adoption of the Grand-Duchy Regulation (GDR) of 22 Feb/06, each product imported by a shop keeper must be declared, no matter how the said product shall be used, internally or to an end consumer. This means that the 2007 declaration will have to list all domestic & related packaging waste, even the waste generated by products consumed internally by the company.
