Luxembourg companies must recycle 80% of glass packaging, 20% more than required under EU law, if the Government approves its draft Decree. This Decree needs to be transposed by 18 August/05 under Directive 2004/12/EC. The draft says that Luxembourg must recycle 60% and recover 65% of its packaging waste, 5% more than the EU goals. The draft says that Luxembourg must also achieve recycling rates of 60% for metals and 30% for plastics, 10 & 7.5% respectively more than in the revised packaging and packaging waste directive. The rates for paper (60%) and wood (15%) are the same as in Directive 2004/12/EC. The draft also contains a proposal to ban PVC in food contact materials from 2007, and to make broader use of environmental agreements aimed at reuse and packaging waste prevention. Industry is furious at the proposals.
