Lower-alcohol wines are becoming more popular, according to a consumer intelligence report issued by the Wine & Spirit Trade Association. The research carried out by the market research firm, Wine Intelligence, shows that more than one in three women and one in four men believe that lower alcohol wines are becoming more fashionable. The report says 59% of all UK regular wine drinkers claim to read the alcohol content of a bottle of wine before purchasing, but only half of those say it is important when deciding what wine to buy. They consider 7 more important factors when choosing a wine including: Grape variety; promotional offer; brand; country of origin; recommendations; and region of origin. Consumers also said they link higher alcohol levels with better quality and value for money.
