Local Structure Analysis Of Sol-Gel Derived Er203-Ge02 Glasses By Ge K-Edge Xafs And Infrared Spectroscopy

In this paper, the authors have measured Ge K-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and infrared spectra of the sol-gel derived Er2O3-GeO2 glasses and investigated the local structure around the Ge atom. It is found that the sol-gel derived undoped GeO2 glass does not differ significantly in the short range order structure from the melt derived GeO2 glass previously reported. However, in the range of the second shell around the Ge atom, the radical structure functions show that the sol-gel derived GeO2 and Er2O3-GeO2 glasses have completely disordered structures.
