Lightweighting Initiative Helps Microbrewers Compete On A National Stage

The UK's smallest independent and microbrewers will be able to benefit from the advantages of lightweight glass beer bottles, thanks to an initiative from bottle merchant, Chapman's. The introduction of a third shape into Chapman's lightweight half litre beer bottles creates a level playing field for smaller brewers who can compete without compromising their brand appearance or incurring change part costs. The new design replicates the shape and proportions of a popular 400g bottle which has recently been withdrawn by its maker. Chapman's worked with the design and technical experts at glassmaking partner O-I to create a replacement which weighs just 330g - a saving of 17.5% on the original weight. This bottle, available exclusively from Chapman's augments the company's two existing "best in class" designs at 300g. See: www.aechapman.com/
