Lighter Glass To Save Waste

A research project to develop lighter glass that will be easier to recycle has been launched in the UK in a collaborative project between WRAP; the project leader Faraday Packaging Partnership; technical consultancy, Glass Technology Services; brand owners; and the glass container manufacturing sector led by British Glass. The aim of the project is to minimise the amount of glass used in each bottle and jar made, to save an eventual 150,000 tonnes of glass a year going to landfill sites. WRAP is spending £550,000 on the project, for the initial development of prototype lightweight containers. Also involved are brand owners including Britvic, Coors and HJ Heinz.
