Lighter Bottles Use Less Glass

Three new spirits bottles added to OI's stock range include a claimed UK first. The square, tall round & dump style containers come in 70 & 75cl sizes in flint glass. Claimed to be the lightest standard round currently available at this size in the UK, the 70cl tall round bottle weighs just 340g. The new standard, produced via the narrow neck press & blow process (NNPB), also features a spotting bar to link multiple elements of labelling & bottle decoration. OI says the square bottle, reportedly the first NNPB square standard made in the UK, also offers the "environmental benefits" of NNPB production by using less glass & creating less waste. At 385g, the 70cl version is around 20% lighter than existing blow:blow standards. A traditional cork mouth finish makes the round dump particularly suitable for low volume deluxe spirits brands; volumes can be as low as 10,000 units.
