The growth of LEDs (light emitting diodes) was concentrated until recently in the markets for traffic signals; signage; and back-lit displays such as mobile telephones and notebook computers. All these markets are now dominated by LED lighting. Now, however, LEDs are making inroads into many more markets traditionally held by glass-clad lighting including home, auto, gaming machines and toys. According to industry analyst Intertech Corporation, though, there are obstacles to this growth pattern. This article looks at new developments in the sector.
