LCD panel makers are set on pushing 16:9 aspect ratio monitor applications to maximize their production at 6G lines. One of the new sizes is 18.5" and some monitor vendors have already shipped products to that segment. But some industry players have called for caution in handling this size panels as acceptance in the end market is failing to meet expectations. End market operators aimed to have 18.5" 16:9 monitors replace 19" 16:10 widescreen ones as the market mainstream, with their process approximately the same. In Taiwan, average prices for both sizes are around the same, US$ 155. Some market players have noted that the chances of enterprises adopting the 18.5" monitors are low. Meanwhile, ordinary consumers, according to these players, are familiar with the mainstream 19", which look substantially larger than their 18.5" counterparts.
