Published for the first time in 2001, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) brought together industry experts from the Institute of Packaging, certification bodies & retailers to develop a standard that encapsulate the due diligence approach to hygiene and technical controls in the manufacture of food packaging. As the fourth edition of the BRC/IOP Global Standard for Packaging & Packaging Materials is prepared for publication this month, Joanna Griffiths, Technical Packaging Manager for BRC trading, reflects on the vital role it plays in the industry.
