Laser Cutting Innovation

Belgium's National Glass Institute, INV, has collaborated with the Biebuyck company to produce laser cutting equipment for drinking glasses. Following four years of research work the equipment is now ready to be marketed. Although the laser technology is costly compared with cold cutting, it can reduce the number of rejects and help to increase production rates, particularly with glasses of a more complex structure. INV recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and has now acquired laboratory equipment worth an estimated BF150m so that it can conduct its scientific projects.
