Guardian Industries, the US-based flat glass manufacturer, has launched the world's biggest glass coater at its factory outside Bascharage in Luxembourg. The new facility, called Guardian Luxcoating, opened in June. the 269,000 square foot facility occupies 21 acres next to the firm's float plant, which will supply glass to the new sputter coater. Products made at the site will include Sun-guard reflective glass, Low-E coated glass for housing and IR infrared reflective coated glass for EU automotive manufacturers. A total of $100M has been invested to develop a U-shaped coater configuration, a 230ft long bridge between the two plants for materials delivery and product shipments, a massive conveyer system, automated packing and on-line size cutting. Around 100 people will be employed at the new factory.
