Karhulan Lasi To Close Furnace

Finnish container glass manufacturer Karhulan Lasi, part of Owens-Illinois group, has decided to close its second glass furnace at Kotka in December 2007, & will lay off about 35 employees. The company will support employees who wish to relocate to other Owens-Illinois' plants in Europe. Karhulan Lasi's production and net sales will fall by about a third as a result of the closure. According to the company, the plant is not at risk; a new screen printing machine will start operation at the facility in January 2008.
